The Benefits of Morning Sunlight & How to Make it a Habit

It may sound too good to be true, but much like the whole 'do exercise and you'll feel better' line, the mere act of getting sunlight in your eyes in the morning may be a game-changer for your health. And it's so. bloody. simple.

Morning Sunshine!

I learned all about this the other day and fell into a wormhole on PubMed (yes, I like reading medical studies for fun) and honestly it's just too simple not to share with you all... as someone who loves to wake up to the morning sunlight and would leave my curtains open all the time if possible (I live in fear as I've been busted by the sporadic window cleaners), I'm definitely going to use this to my advantage...

Key learnings:

Light exposure regulates your circadian rhythm — your body’s internal clock
😎
Intentional sun exposure in the first 30 - 60 minutes after waking up has been shown to increase alertness, boost mood, lower stress, AND improve sleep quality. Fucking wild hey, no wonder mediterranean folk are so relaxed...

It may sound too good to be true, much like the whole 'do exercise and you'll feel better' trope, which I wish wasn't so fucking true. (As a natural slug, I hate that people are so bloody right about this) The mere act of getting sunlight in your eyes in the morning may be a game-changer for your health. And it's so. bloody. simple.

Not only does morning sunlight boost your energy levels, but it may also improve your sleep at night. And some science suggests that morning sun exposure can improve your overall health as well (which is not surprising when you factor in those other benefits, of course you're going to be feeling better in general!)

One reason: Your circadian rhythm is regulated by light exposure, and by intentionally viewing morning sunlight, you can prepare your body and mind for the day ahead. The best part? It’s free, accessible, and research-backed.
